According to the World Report travel rankings, Rome is the third best place to travel in Europe. In Italy, Rome is the best place to visit. If you want to go with your family on winter vacation, it is the #1 place to visit in Europe. When it comes to the world’s best place to visit, it comes in at #7. These rankings are made by experts on the basis of user experience.

If you are on a trip to Rome and want to explore the whole city, a week might not be enough for it. The best months for visiting Rome are from October to April. In these months, there are fewer tourists because the weather is cold, so if you don’t like crowds, this is the ideal time for you to visit Rome. Similarly, if you like warm weather with fewer tourists, then May and September are good choices for you.

For new tourists who are visiting Rome for the first time. Buying a Roma pass will help you get inside the museum on public transport for free or at a cheap cost. You can visit the Vatican museums for free on the last Sunday of the month, while state-run museums are also free to visit on the last Sunday of the month. Fitted jeans and shirts are common for both men and women outside on the streets.

The currency used in Italy is the euro, not the dollar, and the language spoken is Italian. It is advisable to learn a few basic phrases in the language that you will use more often. If you are a US citizen, you will need a passport with at least 6 months remaining. Visa is not required for US citizens unless the plan is to stay for over 90 days. Trevi Fountain

Trevi fountain was built in the 18th century in Rome. Its design was made by Nicola Salvi. It is 86ft tall and 161 ft wide. Trevi fountain is one of the most famous fountains in the world. There are several films in which the Trevi fountain has appeared which include.

The Trevi fountain was restored in 1988 to remove discoloration caused by smog. Similarly, in 1998, the cracks in the stone were repaired by skilled artisans. In 2013 Italian fashion company sponsored 2.2 million euros for the restoration of the fountain. The restoration started in 2014 and ended in 2015. There is no ticket price and you can visit it for free. It is crowded, and you may find it hard to capture a picture of the fountain.

St Peter’s Basilica

This famous church’s construction began in 1506 by Pope Julius II and it was completed in 1605 under the supervision of Paul 5. The church is open daily except on Wednesday mornings when the pope appears. If you want to go to the top of the dome, the fee is 6 euros. The fee to go to the summit is 8 euros. If you take the elevator to go up, then you have to climb 320 stairs instead of 551 steps. If you want to see the pope, then you should come on Wednesday. There is a dress code and you cannot enter without following it. The timings are from 7 am to 7 pm, respectively.

Pantheon

This is also a famous church in Rome. Previously, it was a temple later converted to a church in 608. Famous kings, Victor Emmanuel II and Umberto are also buried in the church. The construction of the church started in 27 BCE under the order of Marcus Agrippa. This is one of the few buildings in Rome which has not been altered. The time to visit the church is from 9 am to 7 pm. Entry will close at 6:30 pm. You can also book an audio tour which is available in 9 different languages. It will help you in exploring the pantheon in a better way. Similarly, you can also book a guided tour where the pantheon expert staff will give you a guided tour.

Colloseum

The colosseum is the fourth best visiting site in Rome. It is basically an amphitheater that has the capacity of at least 50000 spectators back when it was constructed and first opened to the public in 80 A.D. The construction of the colosseum started in 72 AD under the reign of Vespasian and it was completed under the reign of his successor Titus in 80 AD. It was further modified between 81-96 AD under Domitian. The materials used in the construction of the colosseum were terrestrial limestone, volcanic ash rocks, and concrete. This was used for entertainment purposes in that era.

It has suffered from several earthquakes lately. Moreover, its stones have been stolen by the robbers. Still, it is considered one of the great places for tourism in Italy. The colosseum is a really busy place. You will find a lot of tourists, and you might have to stand in long lines to buy a ticket. It is advisable to buy tickets online to avoid crowds and standing in lines for a long time. The opening and closing times of the Colosseum are 8:30 am to 7 pm. The ticket prices are as follows:

Roman Forum

According to the US News, travel guide, the Roman Forum is the 6th best place to visit in Rome. It is not as popular as the Colosseum, but it is interesting. There are many important pieces of ancient landmark monuments present here. This place is culturally very rich. It is located close to the Colosseum. The ticket price is the same as that of visiting the Colosseum. In fact, you can use the same ticket to visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The ticket is valid for 2 days. If you want to visit these places for free, then you should visit them on the first Sunday of the month. The time to visit the Roman Forum is from 8:30 a.m. to one hour before sunset.
